hello, i'm sheila armitage |
I began my career as a lawyer in the UK, on the hi-potential leadership track working for dream companies in finance, in London’s City district. I was fortunate to have exceptional mentors, training, and coaching, which propelled me into people management and global talent roles in both Britain and the U.S. As a child, my curiosity about leadership and collaboration led me to immerse myself in different cultures—learning French, Russian, and Spanish, appreciating the complex and subtle aspects of people. But it wasn’t just about speaking the language; it was about understanding how people think and operate, and building on the whole. I’ve also spent a lot of time in nature, challenging myself in ways that shaped how I lead and coach today. Through The Duke of Edinburgh Award, I learned to navigate with just a compass and no phone, problem solve in groups, study streams and landscapes, and push through my extreme shyness—developing resilience, curiosity, and adaptability along the way. These experiences taught me the power of stepping outside of comfort zones, embracing uncertainty, and creating sense from complexity—skills that are just as vital in leadership as they are in the wild. That’s why you’ll find so many images of nature throughout this site—not just for their beauty, but because nature itself has a profound ability to reduce stress, restore focus, and create a sense of balance. It’s a visual reminder of resilience in action—something we all need in work, leadership, and life. And those who have worked with me know that I tend to choose meetings spaces where we can enjoy nature - The Ladybird Wildflower Center and Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin, Texas. Through this, I saw firsthand how small, thoughtful actions—when done consistently—create lasting impact. Strategically investing in people’s growth, collaboration skills, and culture isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s what fuels business results, adaptability, and resilience. High-trust relationships and a commitment to shared success enable organizations to navigate complexity and rise to any challenge—together. I realized that my talent and purpose is helping others build thriving leadership, teams, cultures, and organizations. For years, I’ve worked with leaders and teams to create environments where people—and results—flourish. I’ve had the privilege of speaking at national conferences like South by Southwest, Elevate 2023, and Microsoft Employee Resource Groups, sharing insights with leaders across healthcare, engineering, technology, and government. Some of the organizations I’ve worked with include AT&T, KPMG, IBM, Dell, Columbia Healthcare, WebMD, the City of Austin, and the Texas Department of Health, among many others. Across industries and disciplines, one thing remains true: leaders thrive when they step into their strengths and break free from outdated ways of working. I do this work because:
